Business and the Public Sector – a Partnership for Growth

Plenty of us want to engage with our local community in a more meaningful way or, to coin a rather hackneyed phrase - ‘give something back’ - but we just don’t know in what form that service might take and how our particular skills might be put to best use. Right now if you’re a businessperson, Team East Sussex (TES) might be something to consider – as it’s currently recruiting for board members.

If you’re in business, you could be forgiven for thinking that the public sector ‘doesn’t get it’ and if you work in the public sector delivering services you could equally be forgiven for thinking that business doesn’t understand you either. This is where public private partnerships can be enormously productive.

The South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) is one of 38 Government created partnerships that bring together key leaders from business, local government, the third sector and further education with a remit to explore opportunities for enterprise.

SELEP is the largest partnership outside of London covering a population of over 4 million people and more than 344,00 businesses. Team East Sussex is a sub-board of SELEP allowing for decision making at a local level. It’s a business led public/private body and its aim is to drive the economic growth of our county.

It’s looking for high calibre professionals to champion growth for East Sussex from their own business perspective. Sector specific knowledge is in particular demand. So if you’re a strategic thinker with business expertise then this could be a way for you to help raise the bar for our region. The time commitment isn’t onerous – around 4 hours a month, with meetings held once a quarter.

Rye certainly isn’t short of business skill and experience across many sectors, if you’re minded to put yourself forward then there’s a short application form to complete via this link.

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 28th February. Successful applicants will be notified in early March and invited to attend the next TES meeting in May. #businesssoutheast #teameastsussex #localpartnership #volunteer #givingback #ryeeastsussex #chamberofcommerce
